[MUSIC] So when we talk about the various
sectors of the poultry industry, we really are talking more about the live
production side, the processing side. And then you have your various species,
table egg or laying hens, broilers, turkeys,
and in Indiana especially, duck production as well.
>>I like working with poultry just cuz it’s a strong
industry here in Indiana. There’s a lot more facets to it than,
somebody thinks it’s just their chicken running around their yard.
>>I think ducks are a different animal at the end of the day in comparison
to a lot of the typical birds that you see chickens, turkeys. You got a different mentality, a different just all around disposition.
>>There’s so many new things coming along in the egg
industry that it’s an exciting time right now to be part of the egg industry.
>>The poultry industry I think has a lot of opportunities right now.
>>When you start to really talk about the various careers I would challenge you to come up with
something that you think we can’t find for you within the poultry industry.
>>You can work in a production facility, a processing plant.
>>Farm management type opportunities.>>Wellbeing specialists.>>Going out working with our growers.>>Nutritionists that help formulate our rations.
>>Pharmaceutical sales, feed sales, equipment sales
>>We have operators that bring in our grain.
>>We have a very large farming operation.>>We have grain merchandisers up front working here to make sure that we get
the quality and the price that we need for our grain.
>>We don’t have a lot of poultry centered vets. If you can really get that you can
find yourself a job in a heartbeat.>>We need food science people who can work in our
quality assurance lab. We’re looking for
a little bit of everything for the right people.
>>So when we start looking across all of
these sectors I would say that there is equal opportunity across all
of them when we look for jobs. About a year ago, we had a rough
estimate come out that somewhere around 50,000 jobs are available currently
in the industry for students to fill. And the issue that the industry faces
is trying to find people that want to participate in the industry and
help fullfill those jobs that are currently open.
>>As far as just the industry as a whole, I think it’s a really efficient, really well run industry.
>>I think it’s great industry to be in and it seems very strong. Everybody likes to eat,
is what I always say and I don’t think that’s going away anytime soon.
