Ontario Agriculture Week 2019

November 5, 2019

[Ernie Hardeman, Minister of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs]: Hi, I’m Ernie Hardeman, Minister of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs. Today marks the beginning of Agriculture Week here in Ontario and is the perfect time to recognize and appreciate the hardworking farmers and agrifood businesses. Agriculture is important to our economy and is the second largest economic sector in Ontario. It contributes over $47 billion to our province’s GDP and employs 1 in 8 people! But, in spite of all those impressive numbers, this year has a been a particularly difficult one for Ontario farmers who have faced trade disruptions and difficult weather for crop production. Still, our agriculture community remains resilient and continues to produce some of the safest, highest quality food in the world. So let’s offer our thanks to the people who bring us an incredible bounty of delicious and nutritious food every day, and show our appreciation to the farmers who help feed our province, our country and the world. Celebrate Ontario Agriculture Week and enjoy the good things that grow in Ontario! [Ontario Logo.]
