How do we cultivate a virtuous society?

November 19, 2019

Student: So as a conservative,
you advocate for a combination of free market economics and
a code of virtues and morality. I was just curious what these virtues
would be based on in your utopian conservative society. Who would enforce
them, and how do we ensure that they don’t turn into the social virtues
of the racist Democrats and the Nazis? D’Souza: Very good question.
So the answer would be yes, we would have free market
economic policies. I’m not against the idea of a safety net, and so
we’re not talking about laissez faire, we’re talking about free market
policies tempered by a recognition of the government having a basic
provision for the truly disadvantaged. D’Souza: Now with regard to virtue,
my view is that this is not the province of the federal
government at all. The government is not in
the virtue business. This is not to say that at local
levels, communities can’t have community standards of all kinds.
In fact, Hayek uses the phrase “a framework of competing utopias,”
his idea being that you can have a hundred different communities, all
experimenting with different ways of life. And his point is that people are free
to move between them, and so essentially, communities that work
will florish, and communities that won’t will become desolate,
people won’t want to live there. I see virtue as something that
should be cultivated in the family, in the church, in the little
league, in what Burke calls “the little platoons of our
society,” the private sector. So in this way, I’m not arguing
for an incompatible position of laissez faire in economics and
rigorous state control of social policy. No, I’m actually arguing for a relatively
libertarian position on both, with virtue decentralized and
operating in the private sphere.

Socialism is about "socializing" the means of production. Communists do it through government ownership. Fascists do it through government regulation, redistribution, and public investment. The REAL goal and results of Socialism (Fascism, Communism & Democratic) is exactly the same… fool "useful idiots" into helping the rich and politically connected "elite" gain wealth and power through political cronyism and unlimited extortion under threat of militarized police gun violence.

Start by being living examples of how moral standards and ethical behaviour and respect for other's ideas and property benefit everyone involved, and educate children accordingly, and get rid of the postmodern-progressive-political-agendas in schools and curricula and let parents have a say in how and what their kids are being taught !
It's not like we have not already had those things in the past – with even more knowledge and understanding today of such issues, it ought be even easier to make it work even better !

As far as 'utopian societies' are concerned one notices all disgruntled people can only compare this society to a utopian society as it's the only one that comes closest to it as a Republic and system of laws not of men.

As a liberal, I completely agree! I am for a free market system with some safety net provisions to ensure everyone has equal opportunity. By this I mean government run parks and rec departments, public education possibly including community college on a state by state basis, trade school certification programs for non-college skilled work, and healthcare (Medicare for all was found to be the most cost effective method by a right-wing Koch brothers funded study). That being said, unlike most Republicans in government I actually believe in a free market independent of the government. By this I mean a market in which large corporations like Amazon and Google can't monopolize entire industries and strong arm government into passing laws to prevent smaller businesses from scaling up to their level or ones in which they don't have to pay income taxes using offshore loopholes. A market in which bankers and major corporations don't get government bailouts and assistance. A market in which major companies like Amazon have to pay their employees better so that they don't have to go on food stamps (an estimated third of Amazon's workforce in Arizona) which is being subsidized by we the taxpayers. A market in which lobbyists don't write laws and then immediately go into the private sector and advise on how to find loopholes to the laws they just wrote. This is the kind of free market I want! SANDERS 2020!

Segregate virtuous peoples from anti-virtuous ones. Every cultural subset has sufficient numbers of both. The practice used is called incarceration.
This is where the two ideologies clash, the rights vs responsibilities ideologies. One ideology supports incarceration, the other opposes it.
The natural tendency is for anti-virtuous people to gravitate to virtuous societies because the standards of living, human rights are better and anti-virtuous people prey upon the virtuous victims for their income. Anti-virtuous cultures have lower standards of living, human rights and anti-virtuous people don't tolerate others doing to them what they do to others.
