Making Jadam wetting agent (JWA) JWA was invented by Youngsang Cho in 2010. He decided to share it with farmers of the world and did not patent it How to make JWA is disclosed in Jadam’s book, website and You tube. JWA is permitted under organic production JWA is also a natural emulsifier and surfactant Youngsang Cho, president of Jadam JWA is a wetting agent which also has some pesticide properties The quality of water is extremely important in making JWA If you use hard water – water that has high calcium, magnesium and iron JWA will not be clear, and its wetting power will be weak So when you make JWA, always test the water first. Make sure it is soft water This is a manual for making different inputs This is a sample of JWA The reason why we provide this sample is because this JWA is used for testing the water If you put in a few drops of JWA into water, you can check what type of water it is. I will show you on two different waters You don’t need to add much. Just like so… Now let’s compare the two One water stays clear; the other became murky Which one is good water? The one that stays crystal clear If you make JWA using the murky water, you can get unclear JWA with weak wetting power Use this one. Let’s observe This one, if you shake, it produces lots of foam This murky one, if you shake, you have much less foam. See the difference? Foam is extremely important. You need lots of them for stronger penetration effect In making JWA, do not use this hard water. Use this soft water that produced lots of foam. This clear one actually used water that passed through Jadam water softener The murky one just used regular tap water Observe and compare the turbidity and foam What do you do when soft water is unavailable? First, we recommend you use rainwater Or you can use water that passed through water softener 10 minutes passed since mixing JWA. Difference is clear Previously I showed you how to make Jadam sulfur (JS) You will find that you will use about 3 times more JWA than JS You will be making JWA many times in the future and what is very very important is that This barrel has to be very very very clean If there is any unwanted object like dirt you will likely fail JWA might turn out murky Be sure to thoroughly clean the barrel Also the drill; thoroughly clean with toothbrush, make sure no dirt is attached First water is 2.5 liters. Be precise. It’s very important Use precise measuring and get the right amount You can also measure by weight The weight of beaker has been deducted, the machine has been zeroed So the number 2.5 you see is purely the weight of the water If you put in more than 2.5 liters of water, it will take very long time to make If water is less than 2.5 L, it will turn hard Be very very accurate; use 2.5 liters exactly 2.5 liters of water 3.2 kg of potassium hydroxide Close lid because gas is given off Water and potassium hydroxide react to generate high heat of over 100°C Roll like so to accelerate melting of potassium hydroxide Now let’s open Check whether it has melted completley There are some remaining at the bottom Make sure caustic potash has dissolved completley Do not proceed if any solids remain Now let’s pour in canola oil Open gently so that the lid does not get torn Do not use force. Pull slowly Then turn Inner lid too, should be pulled gently This is air hole. Pull it gently too 18 liters of canola oil Make sure the air hole it on top, or else you could spill Getting the last single drop… Now we will drill-mix I repeat that the drill has to be very clean Longer drills are more convenient Drill is easily available in hardware shops There are corded and chargeable drills. I recommend corded drills You can use chargeable ones, but it will take twice as long Some people don’t want to use machine and try to mix with hands But I tell you it is impossible to do with hands Manually, it could take over 5 hours Use electric drill See the color is clear in the beginning. Now let’s drill We’ve drilled for about 5 to 7 minutes We showed you the entire drilling to show you how the color and viscosity change Viscosity is like thick soup or thin mayonnaise It takes about 5 to 7 minutes to reach this state Time varies due to difference in RPM of drills If you use chargeable drill, it will take maybe 10 or 20 minutes If you don’t drill thoroughly at this stage, later this thing will not harden It is like thin mayonnaise or yogurt. This is what you want In summer, drill for a little longer If you don’t drill enough in summer, it is easy for this to not become hardened Now close lid and let sit for over 3 days Temperature will rise from 63 to 85°C then gradually fall Saponification will occur It looks like butter after saponification. It should have hardened If your water was not the right amount or you didn’t drill well enough after 3 days this would not have hardened; it stays in the same soup-like state and also an oil layer can appear on top In that case, you have to drill again until this almost hardens, and then let sit for over 3 days Jadam sulfur is not as sensitive to outside temperature However JWA is made better in warm temperatures. So especially in winter, do this in greenhouse or indoors. Let it sit in warm place for over 3 days Next, I will show you the second stage of JWA making 3 days have passed This is how it should look like hardened like butter or margarine This is how it feels to the finger It is sometimes hard and sometimes softer. It can vary We only have to break this into small pieces and melt in water – that’s it Let’s add only a portion of the water at first – say 20 L Important, this water too should be soft water that passed JWA water test by remaining clear If water is not right, JWA will be minimally effective Again the drill should be extremely clean Remember, you do NOT try to melt it all in this stage of having added 20 L of water You need not over-drill. Role of drill is to simply break lump into small pieces Pay attention to corners where lumps easily remain stuck Now the lump has almost completely broken down into small pieces Then add 60 L of water to make up 100 L Make sure lump has broken into small pieces Add in 60 L of water Again, it is important to put in the exact volume of water First water was 20 L, second is 60 L. Add that with other ingredients and you will get 100 L of completed JWA We will use wooden stick to stir. You could use the drill but the problem is that the drill is too short You don’t want the motor part of drill going in the water – you’ll get an electric shock Use a very clean wooden stick to stir Do NOT use the stick you used for making JS. Get a new, clean one In winter, chunks tend to sink to the bottom Stick in the stick deep, scrape the bottom Don’t try to melt it all at once. Stir and leave it. They will dissolve with time It takes about 24 hours after adding second water for melting to be complete So in total, it takes 4 days to complete JWA Many people make a mistake at second stage; they try to melt completely with drill If you over-drill, this will turn into something like milk If water is good, milk will turn into clear water after time But again I stress, do not over-drill in an attempt to dissolve them all at once. Use wooden stick and take your time After stirring with wooden stick, close lid and let it rest It keeps melting. If you have time, stir once in a while People will be making JWA in many different environments – especially the temperature How fast this melts varies according to water type, temperature, etc. This melts faster when warm. In cold areas, it can actually take more than 24 hours to melt Again, I recommend you make JWA in a warm place – indoors, greenhouse, storage, etc. Sometimes you’ve done everything right but still JWA might not melt completely Then add about 2 L of water and stir again to melt. It will work 1 hour has passed since I stirred Feel the bottom for any sunk-down particles Stir gently and slowly In cold temperature, more pieces will sink to the bottom When hot, more tend to float to the surface So I stirred second time. Now I will shut the lid Now 2 and a half hours passed See the foam started to die down Stick the wood deep into the solution, scrape, pull and mix Color is starting to come out Make sure nothing is stuck to the corners Stir to the very bottom Color is becoming clearer 4 hours have passed Much of the solids are gone now; foam is much less than before 6 hours have passed Much has melted but still some remain Again, you can use electric drill but the problem is that the drill is too short That is why we recommend the use of a long stick like so 12 hours have passed There still are undissolved pieces Water temperature is around 22ºC I want to check the water volume because it doesn’t seem to be melting that well Normally the water level should be 3 cm below the top part; I think we need more water So we added 2 L more of water to raise the water level I want to note that if water is too little, this will not melt completely There is a saturation point; you fill up water until water dissolves as much JWA as possible and is saturated If JWA didn’t melt fully, you can always add water later Temperature is another factor in determining melting speed 24 hours have passed. I stirred it about 5 times during that period I’ll open the lid 24 hours have passed after melting butter-like JWA See that it’s completely dissolved One thing to be careful, it does not always melt completely in 100 L It melts well in summer and not so in winter So if water is cold, there can be cases where this does not melt completely Then it can take longer than 24 hours You see, 24 hours is only a standard; it can take longer or shorter In very cold winters, this might not fully melt If it has not fully melted, you just take out and use the upper portion And then add some more water for JWA to dissolve further But my recommendation is that you make it in warm places in winter, like greenhouse or indoors Completed JWA should turn out clear and transparent like this It cost only about $50 to make this, and you get 100 bottles of wetting agent It has no expiry; you can keep and use for as long as you need The basic dilution is that for 500 L, you add 3 L of JWA Do not use less than 3 L; it will have minimal wetting power Use from 3 to 15 L of JWA for 500 L The more JWA you use, the stronger the wetting power will become; that means more powerful pesticide But again, I do not recommend continued use in high dosages like 8, 10, 15 L If plants are weak, use in strong concentration only for two times, then weaken it again The more JWA, the stronger the pesticide becomes, but remember to take caution when plants are weak It could suppress growth The two have different color This left one is over 2 and a half years old JWA will keep aging and the color gets darker The older it gets, the better quality it becomes But the difference is not dramatic; just use JWA after completing it in 4 days Just for your info, with age, the quality of JWA improves somewhat How do you store this? For Jadam sulfur, I recommended that you place the solution into smaller containers for storage because if not, layer-separation can occur JWA can be stored in small bottles like this, or any other plastic bottles You can even leave it whole in this big barrel – only make sure you put on tight lid to prevent evaporation We have disclosed detailed instructions on how to make Jadam wetting agent and Jadam sulfur * Any remaining Jadam natural pesticide that has JS in it, should not be reused on already-applied area Jadam invented these two inputs – JWA is a wetting agent; JS is a germicide If you buy organic wetting agent or organic fungicides or germicides, one bottle will be about $50 But with Jadam method, you make your own inputs With $50, you can make 100 bottles – this is ultra-low cost agriculture Normally, you will be using about 3 times more JWA than JS So these two – JWA and JS – are the two basic inputs for Jadam’s organic pest control Third component is Jadam herb solution (JHS).     hi this is mahi from India, i have a doubt, when you are using chemical like sulfur and sodium hydroxide so on ,how it called organic farming ,even fertilizers also have the same chemical,please clear my doubt (may be one of the reason i am unable to understand your language) please don't mind,i am interested your method ,

    애써서 개발하시고 개척하신 자닮제조법과 사용방법과 조건없이 가르쳐 주셔서 고맙습니다. 그리고 농약에 대한 폭넓은 시각을 갖도록 일깨워 주셔서 고맙습니다. 덕분에 자닮유황이나 자닮오일을 만들수 있을것 같습니다. 그런데 시중에 나와있는 110L통이 그지름이나 높이가 제각각 다르더군요. 선생님이 말씀하신 높이가63cm인 통이 없더라구요. 그와 같은 통을 쓸때 선생님 같이 3cm를 아래로 맞추었을때 정확한 개량이 안될것 같아 문의드립니다. 선생님이 쓰시는 물이 들어가는 실재 통의 밑면지름과 윗면지름을 알려주시면 고맙겠습니다. 그리고 높이 63cm가 통의 내면의 깊이인지 아니면 통의 외곽의 높이인지요. 내면과 외곽높이 모두 알려주시면 선생님이 사용하시는 통하고 똑같은 걸 구입하는데 많은 도움이 되리라 확신합니다. 고맙습니다.
